American Airlines Bankruptcy

Featured in Top Stories

Wichita, Kansas' loss is Oklahoma’s economic gain. Aero-space company Boeing is closing its complex in Wichita in anticipation of defense-spending cutbacks. The company plans to move about 800 of those 2,100 jobs to Oklahoma City. And while that is welcome news in central Oklahoma, northeast Oklahoma is bracing for a possible loss of 6500 aero-space jobs. Speculation has it that the American Airlines maintenance base in Tulsa, a cornerstone of the region's economy for more than half a century, may close. Those concerns are based on the company's recent decision to enter chapter-11 bankruptcy. Hoping to keep the maintenance facility in operation, leaders are joining forces to try to keep American Airlines in Oklahoma.
