In this episode, Oklahoma U.S. Representative Tom Cole lays out the local impact of sequestration. One group who will be impacted? The middle class, a group that is increasingly shrinking--and being squeezed by economic issues besides. In northern Oklahoma, cattlemen in Osage County face a particular issue as they fight to protect their lands and their cattle. Meanwhile, small towns across the state find themselves in broader food deserts and local groceries struggle to keep their doors open. A sole county in Oklahoma does not have its oil and natural gas operations regulated by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Mineral rights in Osage county are held in trust for the Osage Nation. That means drilling oversight falls to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but many landowners don't feel the agency is doing it's job to protect the land.

In this episode of the ONR, we explore school security, and what measures lawmakers and educators are considering to keep area schools safe. In other nearby schools, the problem is less that of security and more of administrative funding. With a cap on administrative spending, some small school districts are considering merging administrations to save money. In our continuing drought coverage, we visit Altus-Lugert Lake in southwestern Oklahoma, where low water levels are affecting area agriculture.
