In this ONR, an interim study takes a closer look at the Oklahoma Department of Veteran Affairs, and what they find isn't pretty. Copper thefts are on the rise, but one local company is using its ingenuity to halt thieves, and perhaps save a few lives along the way. A local company shutters its doors, and the loss of over a hundred jobs hits hard. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: it's the new motto of one Oklahoma company, as they craft a plan to recycle hydraulic fracturing water. Plus, business news, U.S. senators, and kilts and car repairs, on this ONR.

Oklahoma has two things in abundance: natural gas and waterways, which is a good thing, since the latter is needed to drill for the former. But it can take a lot of time and money to haul in the necessary loads of water to a drill site, an issue that's pushed Devon Energy to develop a frack water recycling plant in order to have an eco-friendly supply of water on site.

StateImpact: Wind Energy

Featured in Top Stories

While local government pushes for CNG, another Oklahoma energy industry looks to be left blowing in the wind. A federal wind production tax credit is set to expire, and it's causing a lot of concern among wind energy producers, enough that the fear of losing that tax credit is already causing ripples in the state's economy. We speak to StateImpact's Joe Wertz, who has been following this development in one of Oklahoma's largest industries.

On this episode of ONR, we take a look at the drought gripping the state and many of it's industries. The heat is hitting agriculture hard, but so is a shortage of young farmers replacing retiring baby boomers. But there are some who say they can't think of a better career to pursue than that which requires a tractor. The Olympics might be in London, but some Olympians are right here in Oklahoma, recalling the joy of going for the gold. Plus, an all-new take on meals on wheels, animals get a helping hand, and we remember a local legislative legend on this ONR.
