Ken Burn's latest documentary film, "The Dust Bowl" premiered this week, showcasing the hardships endured during one of Oklahoma's worst ecological disasters. But out of the Dust Bowl came a bevy of new programs on soil and water conservation, crafted with the intent of preventing another Dust Bowl from happening.

Poor crops, record-low water levels, cracked, dry earth and nearly unbearable heat: if that sounds familiar, you've lived through one of Oklahoma's summers recently. Droughts have walloped the Sooner state for the past two years, and it has many across the state trying to come up with solutions to the fallout caused by Oklahoma's water deficiency.

The Oklahoma Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee completed its hearings investigating the operations of the state's veterans centers. In this final hearing, Susan Early, daughter of the deceased Jack King, testified about her father's care while in the Claremore center, and the heart-wrenching conditions under which he died.

The Hispanic Community in Oklahoma

There are more than 51,000,000 Hispanics in the United States, and almost half of them are eligible voters. That's 11% of the voting population. About 332,000 Hispanics reside in Oklahoma, and although they are a small voting bloc, their impact on Oklahoma's economy and culture is unmistakable. Joining us to talk about the rise of Hispanics in Oklahoma are: Ron J. Jackson, Jr., staff reporter for Oklahoma Watch, and Giovanni Perry, member of the League of United Latin American Citizens.
