But it also send waves through local communities, organizations and regulation commissions who were and are concerned about the chemicals used in the process. Efforts are underway to provide more open information about the chemicals in fracking fluid, but that opennes comes with a price.

The new members of the War Veterans Commission gathered for the first time last week, and one of the key items on the agenda was abuse in veterans centers as brought to light by an investigative report by the Journal Record and the ONR. While the new members of the commission have a lot of issues to handle, the ones dealing with abuse and neglect are very much on their minds.

Fish Kill Follow-Up

On the heels of another fish kill in the same location, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued an interim study on the initial kill from last July that wiped out a massive amount of catfish in the Red River. The novel-sized report cites water and sediment samples from the area to draw conclusions on the fish kill that is leaving experts and laymen scratching their collective heads.

Underage drinking is a costly endeavor. The medical bills it racks up, the cost of lost work and a slew of other expenses cost Oklahoma taxpayers just short of a billion dollars a year. But a prevention program enacted by the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is working to stop minors from drinking--and they're seeing results.

Accessible healthcare is an issue for everyone, but perhaps nowhere is it felt more acutely than in rural parts of the state, where hospitals--and doctors--can be more than a half hour away. But a program at the OSU Health Sciences Center is working to fix that problem by training a wave of doctors specializing in rural medicine.

June 28th saw the arrival of the much-anticipated Supreme Court ruling on the affordable health care act, commonly dubbed 'Obamacare.' The high court voted in favor of the controversial bill to either the chagrin or joy of people across the country. In Oklahoma, it was certainly more of the former, as lawmakers had held off on creating a healthcare exchange in compliance with the law, figuring it would be overturned. Now with the law moving forward, state legislators must figure out where Oklahoma goes from here in the land of health care.

The Supreme Court upheld most of the affordable health care act this week, but the repercussions will be rolling out for weeks to come, as many states--including Oklahoma--have not yet moved to comply with the law. We speak with experts about the law and what it means. This week also saw the primary election occur on Tuesday night, and Steve Bennett looks at who was elected, who wasn't, and what that means for Oklahoma politics. We also explore underage drinking, and the programs enacted by the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services that are making an impact. OSU is training a different kind of doctor, and we get our hands on some noodling action, on this episode of the ONR.
