In this episode of the ONR, a look at Oklahoma's early education system, and why reading levels drop even after kids enroll in a stellar pre-k program. While some small towns are experiencing a renaissance, others are facing a slow economic death. Oklahoma's growing obesity problem will soon envelop two-thirds of all Oklahomans, but steps are being taken to scale back the weight trend. One of the health issues brought on by obesity? Kidney issues, specifically Chronic Kidney Disease, and it is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Plus, a look at the upcoming special session, and the work of one of the nation's most prominent Native American artists, and more on the ONR.

At least a dozen feature films have been shot in Oklahoma in the last four years, featuring some big names in acting, producing and directing. But, despite the recent activity, Oklahoma's film industry faces an uncertain future. We discuss that with our guests: Brian Hearn, Film Curator at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art; Clifton Raphael, film instructor for Jenks High School; Xavier Niera, Tourism Commissioner and Chair of the deadCenter Film Festival; and Gray Frederickson, film instructor at Oklahoma City Community College and Academy award-winning film producer.
