The Ft. Sill Army Post trains thousands of soldiers each year - most of whom have ended up fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Early on in the wars the soldiers found themselves ill-equipped to defend against improvised explosive devices, IEDs. The home made bombs claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands injured. New vehicles and new technology were needed. Now, soldiers preparing for deployment are training in Oklahoma on vehicles that have proven to save lives.

The Obama administration recently announced plans to cut U.S. defense spending by almost half a trillion dollars over the next ten years as part of a strategy to reduce the size of the federal budget and re-position the military. That amount could double if automatic cuts triggered by the failure of the deficit-reduction super-committee to reach an agreement go into effect. We spoke with Oklahoma U.S. Senator Tom Coburn to get his reaction to the proposed cuts.
