In this episode of the ONR, the Oklahoma legislative session kicks off with Governor Mary Fallin's State of the State address. We bring you excerpts of her speech and reactions to her agenda from the lawmakers at 23rd and Lincoln. One item on many lawmakers' minds is the crumbling capitol, but Bob Sands uncovers a swath of ignored infrastructure problems across the state. Then, the nation and the state struggle to support a growing elderly population. And for years, the ethnic makeup of Oklahoma's prison system has went unchanged, and remains skewed towards minorities. In this week's ONR, Oklahoma's murder rate reached near-record highs in 2012, while Oklahoma's other major metro area, Tulsa, was at lower rate than usual. We look at what's causing the disparity in numbers, and what's being done to prevent violent deaths across the state. The Pinnacle Plan meant to restructure the Oklahoma Department of Human Services went into effect last July, but it still has a ways to go to be fully implemented. Multiple Sclerosis can strike anyone at anytime, but a cure remains elusive. While drugs are available to slow the disease's progression, the cost remains out of reach for some. Plus, the Supreme Court steps into one of Oklahoma's ongoing water wars, Organizational Day, and a look at a historic Tulsa building, on this ONR.
