Then we explore initiatives put in place to prevent another Dust Bowl, and we tour a tasty staple of the Oklahoma economy: Bama Pies. Plus, an exclusive interview with former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, a new Listen To Me segment, and updates on the ODVA studies and the A-F school grading system, on this ONR.

On this episode of the ONR, voters have been urged to 'get out the vote,' and some are doing so earlier than others as early voting grows in popularity. But it's having a profound impact on the campaign season and it's length. Campaign season also means campaign speeches and ads. We take a look at the world of political operatives and their role in the world of politics. One of the groups trying to be reached by those campaign messages this year? Hispanics. They now are the largest minority in the United States, and as such are a strong voting block. In our Oklahoma Forum excerpt, we discuss the Latino community and voting. Then our reporter Cathy Tatom visits 'Little Mexico' in Heavener, Oklahoma, to see the impact of a new Latino population in the town. Plus, business news, lessons from the Dust Bowl, and silo art projects, on this ONR.

As Mitt Romney rides a post-debate bounce in approval ratings, all eyes have swung towards the swing states, looking to see if that bounce can become a solid jump ahead in the polls. Oklahoma doesn't qualify as a political battleground, but residents do have their opinions, formed from and before the debates. We hear some of those opinions in our latest 'Listen To Me' segment, in partnership with the PBS Newshour.

On this ONR, we explore the payday loan stores that Oklahomans are using in droves--as much as twice the national average. Then, as bodies of water dry up and a key aquifer in southeastern Oklahoma is depleted, residents are left wondering if local mining operations are to blame. In the eastern wing of the state, three entities--a university, a hospital, and a high school--are banding together to help end the shortage of rural doctors. Medicine isn't the only concern of rural parts of the state. We speak with Mike Spradling, President of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, about the Farm Bill languishing in Congress, and what that means for local farmers. Plus, the Great State Fair, voters speak their mind, and painting up the ice, on this ONR.

On this episode of the ONR, oil production is booming in Oklahoma, and that means employment for many across the state. But the work, while plentiful, can be dangerous, as we learn from StateImpact's Joe Wertz who has been reporting on the pitfalls of the oil field. In Tulsa, researchers from across the United States and around the globe gather to work out a harrowing problem: why does child abuse keep occurring, and what can be done to stop it? Plus, we speak with one of the nation's last political cartoonists and the news cycles that inspire him, visit Oklahoma wine country, and get lost in a maze--or is it maize?--of Thunder, on this ONR.
