Among the bills left unattended was the Farm Bill, a beleaguered piece of legislation that's been reworked by both the House and the Senate and ultimately still left undecided. We spoke to the President of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Mike Spradling, about the legislation and what it's holdup means for local farmers.

Newsmaker Interview: Dr. Bernard Rollin

Caring for livestock has long been part of Oklahoma's agricultural industry, but growing global demand for meat has led to cases of deplorable conditions at livestock production companies, bringing the companies under the scrutiny of their customers--and the Kirkpatrick Foundation. The group is launching a new initiative aimed at promoting animal welfare across the state, and helping them kick off their campaign is Dr. Bernard Rollin, the father of modern veterinary ethics. We spoke to Dr. Rollin about his work in animal welfare, and how livestock producers can pair the demands of consumers with the need for humane treatment of animals.

Strike out on nearly any road in Oklahoma, and odds are at some point you'll cross rows of grapes, being carefully cultivated in order to create mouth-watering vintages. It's a stark contrast to just a few years ago, when only three wineries and a scant few vinyards existed in the state. But new laws have helped resuscitate one of the state's oldest agricultural ventures.

Fish Kill Follow-Up

On the heels of another fish kill in the same location, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued an interim study on the initial kill from last July that wiped out a massive amount of catfish in the Red River. The novel-sized report cites water and sediment samples from the area to draw conclusions on the fish kill that is leaving experts and laymen scratching their collective heads.
