Lessons From The Dust Bowl

While the entire country was suffering through the great depression, people in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado faced an additional catastrophe - ferocious dust storms that brought financial ruin and death to the plains. The Oklahoma panhandle was the epicenter of the Dust Bowl. Those that survived nature's onslaught helped develop new techniques for conserving the land and rebuilding Oklahoma's agriculture. The Dust Bowl is the subject of Ken Burns' new documentary, airing nationally November 18th and 19th on PBS. Joining us to talk about the lessons learned from the dust bowl are Clay Pope, Executive Director of the Association of Oklahoma Conservation Districts; Mike Thralls, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission; and Dean Graumann, Director of the Greer County Conservation District.
