Feral Hogs

Problems with feral hogs were first reported in rural southeastern Oklahoma in the 1980's. Now, landowners in all 77 counties are becoming aware of the damage these wild mammals can cause. Feral hogs are even starting to move into urban areas, just as they have in Texas. As the population of feral swine explodes, the Department of Agriculture is trying to find ways to reduce their numbers. But, it isn't easy.

It's a group willing to work just for food, around the clock, seven days a week to get the job done. Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant was one of the players who filed anti-trust lawsuits against the national basketball association on Tuesday. With the NBA player lockout now in its fifth month, the players say the league left them no other choice than to take their case to court. The two sides in this labor dispute are dug in, and the season hangs in the balance. We spoke with Myron Patton, sports director at Fox-25 in Oklahoma City and talk show host at KREF radio, about the impasse.

Weleetka Murders

More than three years have passed since two young girls were murdered while walking on a dirt road in rural Okfuskee County near Weleetka. Recently there has been growing publicity about the case including speculation on a possible suspect. For investigators, the key piece of evidence to allow charges to be filed, involves a gun they believe is the murder weapon. But they have no idea where it is.

Near Poor

They are known as the 'near poor', people teetering on the edge of homelessness and hunger but for now living what is largely viewed as a middle income life. Anyone whose income is 50% or less above the poverty line falls into the near poor category, just an illness or job loss away from living in poverty. One in three Oklahomans already live below the poverty line and now growing numbers of others are falling into the near poor category - making too much money for government assistance but not enough to pay the bills.
