The Mary Rose: Promo Mar 31st @ 7:30pm (0:60)
Oklahoma, Music & the Mary Rose She was the flagship of a new warring naval fleet commissioned by King Henry VIII. The Mary Rose, the first ship built that was able to fire broadside, set sail to protect England in 1512. After serving 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland and Brittany she saw her last action on July 19, 1545. While leading an attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, The Mary Rose sank, but after four centuries of resting at the bottom of the ocean, on October 11, 1982, she was recovered and returned to her home port. Thirty years later, far across the sea, two American musicians in Oklahoma pay homage to The Mary Rose with a complete symphony to tell her story. The music so captivated the British who worked for decades to reclaim and restore the lost vessel that they took their own voyage across the sea just to hear The Song of The Mary Rose.
