286_hewitt_aboutIn honor of broadcast journalism pioneer, Don Hewitt, we will air the program DON HEWITT: 90 MINUTES ON 60 MINUTES, AN "AMERICAN MASTERS" SPECIAL on OETA OKLA this weekend. The times are Saturday at 3pm and on Sunday at 7pm.

Don Hewitt is best known as the creator and executive producer of 60 minutes, the first new program of its kind. Formerly the producer and director of CBS TV News, Hewitt was behind almost every important news public affairs broadcast in the 1950s & early 60s. His unparalleled understanding of the power of the television medium has led to many firsts in broadcasting history.OETA_OKLA_2_copy

Hewitt had been battling pancreatic cancer. He died Wednesday at his home in Bridgehampton, New York, surrounded by his family. He was 86.
