Pop quiz! -- Who sang "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"? Who sang "Footloose"?
Most people can tell you the answers are Charlie Daniels and Kenny Loggins, but the average person may struggle to name the songwriter responsible Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" and Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". The answer is Diane Warren. Who was behind Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill , No Doubt's Return of Saturn and the Dave Matthews Band's Everyday? Answer: Glen Ballard.
The new music series LEGENDS & LYRICS honors the true creators of the most popular genres of commercial music - the songwriters. In each episode, award-winning recording artists play their most memorable songs and tell about the inspiration behind them. Afterwards, up-and-coming recording artists perform their original songs. Each episode also features a "Did You Know?" segment telling interesting facts about today's commercial music and a "Tip of the Week" segment designed to pass along professional advice to aspiring artists.
I couldn't find a clip of tonight's episode, but here's one from later in the year...
