Confirmation Hearings on OETA OKLA
Written by Holly on Monday July 13, 2009
OETA will air full coverage of the Senate Confirmation Hearings for Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor on OETA OKLA starting this morning around 9am. The hearings will run from Monday to Wednesday, but could extend to Thursday. The hearings are expected to run until around 4pm each day, but it all depends on how the events transpire.
NewsHour Senior Correspondent Judy Woodruff will anchor live coverage from the hearing room in the Hart Senate Office Building, with analysis from Marcia Coyle of the National Law Journal. PBS will provide gavel-to-gavel coverage of the days when Sotomayor is scheduled to testify before the committee.
Today's hearing is expected to include statements from each of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and possibly Sotomayor's opening statement. Over the course of several days, the hearings will continue with questions and answers with Sotomayor followed by testimony from other witnesses. The NewsHour's coverage will begin with the Committee members' statements on Monday and will continue through the conclusion of Judge Sotomayor's appearances before the committee.
There will be breaks, lunches and/or recesses through the hearings that we will fill with our regular programming, but as long as PBS is feeding us coverage of the hearings, we will carry it.
OETA OKLA can be seen over-the-air with any digital television or converter box. It's the "point-two" digital channel, like 13.2 or 11.2. Some cable providers are also now offering OKLA. For example, Cox Digital Cable offers OETA OKLA on channel 112. Viewers who cannot watch the coverage on OKLA will be able to see a summary of the day's events on NEWSHOUR each night at 5pm on OETA's main channel. You can also watch the hearings streaming live here.
