Okie Noodling -- The Sequel
Written by Holly on Wednesday July 8, 2009
"No worms. No wimps. No worries." -- That's the motto of the hands-on anglers known as Noodlers.
Thanks in part to filmmaker Bradley Beesley, Oklahoma has become the unofficial headquarters for noodling. In 2001, his film OKIE NOODLING was distributed to public television stations nationwide through OETA. Some programmers may have scoffed but they scheduled it anyway, much to their audience's delight. It has since become a public television cult classic. And now, Beesley has produced a sequel.
OKIE NOODLING II explores the sport's evolution over the last decade, including commercialization and some legalization issues. Beesley revisits much the original cast from the first film and introduces us to some new, eccentric characters. The second half of the film follows the 2008 noodling tournament in Pauls Valley.
If you don't have anything planned for this weekend, the 10th Annual Okie Noodling Tournament is this Saturday. You can get your registration information here. Keep in mind the new rule for 2009: "All fish must be alive. Dead fish will be disqualified." How can you not be fascinated by a sport with rules such as this?!
Here is the show's trailer:
OKIE NOODLING II premieres tonight, Wednesday, July 8 at 10pm. It will repeat Friday, July 10 at 9pm.
