No NOVA Tonight

Silk_Road_Ensemble_Photo_by_Todd_RosenbergIf you plan your Tuesday evenings around NOVA (like me!), get ready for something completely different tonight. PBS has for us a special presentation of LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER.

It's a celebration of music from the four corners of the earth with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. What makes tonight's performance extra special is that it's not being broadcast from the confines of the usual Lincoln Center auditorium. Oh no, tonight's concert will take place outside, in the newly-refurbished bandstand in Damrosch Park on the Lincoln Center acreage. (Fingers crossed the weather cooperates.)

What is the Silk Road Ensemble? Basically, it's about 60 musicians, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers from more than 20 countries. They all have different backgrounds and experiences, and when they come together, the music is a kaleidoscopic of sound.

This promises to be one of the most unusual programs ever presented on LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER.

(And for those who need their weekly NOVA fix, tune in Saturday at 3pm or Sunday at 11am for NOVA "Lord of the Ants".)
