Pipeline Blog

Hello. My name is Holly. I'm part of a team of people who assemble the programming schedule for OETA.

We look at the PBS national schedule, local programs and programs from other stations and distributors. We take in all that information and combine it with Member ballot feedback and viewer suggestions, and at the end of the month, I put together a schedule for each of our four channels.

The following are some notes about upcoming programs, preemptions and other points of interest that viewers might not hear otherwise. I hope you'll find it useful!

Time Team America "Fort James, South Dakota"

Written by Holly on Tuesday August 18, 2009

TIME TEAM AMERICA "Fort James, South Dakota" fed from PBS on August 5 while we were in our pledge drive. We recorded it and we'll air it tonight at 9pm.

time_teamIn tonight's episode, the archaeologists ride to the rescue of a Wild West time capsule. In 1865, a unit of cavalry soldiers thought they had volunteered to fight in the Civil War. Instead, they found themselves sent west to defend pioneer settlers against angry Sioux Indians in what is now South Dakota. Upon their arrival, the soldiers built one of the few stone forts on the American frontier. The fort's quartzite walls still peek out from under a grassy field. Our team has just three days to map, dig, and uncover what remains of Fort James. What they find tells an intriguing tale of 1865 frontier life.

In this picture, archaeologist Dr. Julie Schablitsky excavates what seemed to be a privy outside the fortress walls at Fort James, South Dakota. Archaeologists dig privies because they were often used as trash pits and can yield treasure troves of artifacts.

Tune in tomorrow night at 7pm for TIME TEAM SPECIAL EDITION where an expedition to the Jamestown settlement reveals the names and life stories of early colonists.

The Trouble with Live TV

Written by Holly on Thursday August 13, 2009

Joshua_Bell_Photo_by_Bill_PhelpsIf you watched last night's LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER, you might have noticed some glitches in the audio and video. New York was experiencing some inclement weather last night and it affected the satellite feed of the program.

PBS later fed a cleaner version of the program and that's the one we aired this morning at 5am. We'll air it again tonight at 7pm on OETA OKLA. If you can't get OKLA, you have one more chance to see it on our main channel tonight at 2am.

Julia Child Marathon on OETA Create

Written by Holly on Saturday August 8, 2009

julieandjuliaposterThe new movie Julie & Julia opens this weekend depicting the life of Julia Child contrasted against Julie Powell, a woman who aspires to cook all of Child's recipes and blog about it. It's a movie... about a blog... about a book... about food. I can't wait!

create_logoAs a celebration of Julia Child's life and impact on cooking shows (and impact on PBS), the OETA Create channel will be running a "Cooking with Julia" marathon today, Saturday August 8. Julia and her culinary comrades will make sinful and decadent desserts, confections and breads.

Take that TV in the kitchen and start cooking.
