The_winnersHey Kids! It's time once again for OETA's PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST!

The competition is designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning. OETA encourages children in grades K-3 to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original stories and illustrations. It's a perfect classroom and family time activity!

What is the OETA/PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest and who can enter?

It's a Contest held by OETA for Oklahoma kids in K-3rd grade who want to write and illustrate their own stories. You can submit your story to OETA for judging, and a chance to win prizes! Plus, everyone who enters gets a Certificate of Achievement.

When does it start and how do I sign up?

Sharpen your pencils! The contest begins January 6, 2014. Click HERE for entry forms and HERE for the complete set of contest rules. Entries must be postmarked by April 11, 2014                 *. Send your story to:

OETA-The Oklahoma Network
Storybook Contest
7403 North Kelley Ave.
Oklahoma City, OK 73113

*Parents: Please send a self addressed envelope with appropriate postage to receive your child's story back after the contest concludes.

Can I see stories from other Contest years to get ideas?

Yes! You can check out stories from previous years by visiting Story Central. Take a look at the national winners and think about your own favorite stories. What do they have in common? It seems they all have things like:

  • a beginning, middle, and end
  • a central event like a conflict or discovery
  • characters who change or learn a lesson
  • illustrations that help tell the tale
