The Graduates

Latinos are the fastest-growing segment of the u.s. population. The Tulsa and Oklahoma City school districts are majority/minority, with Hispanic students leading the way. Latinos have made significant improvements in graduation rates in the last decade, but still lag behind white students in several key higher education measures. As shown in the Independent Lens series, "The Graduates," many challenges face Latino students. Joining us today are Richard Storm, Principal at Union Alternative School in Tulsa, which had one of its students featured in "The Graduates"; Mike Figueroa, Principal at Santa Fe South Middle School in Oklahoma City; and Rocio Esperaza, a former student at Santa Fe South Middle School, and now a para-professional at the Santa Fe South Elementary School.

Wages and the Income Gap

Since the late seventies, income inequality has been been growing in the U.S. In fact, according to an Associated Press report, last year the wealthiest Americans showed their biggest share of the country's household income since 1928. Why is the gap between rich and poor widening, and what does it mean for the middle class, and our economy? Joining us to discuss that are Jonathan Willner, Economics Department Chair at the Oklahoma City University Meinders School of Business; Fred Morgan, President of the State Chamber of Oklahoma; and, from Tulsa, David Blatt, Director of the Oklahoma Policy Institute.
